Program Details

University of Virginia provides an online Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction. This program combines research with best practices to provide effective learning for teachers in educational settings. Students can choose an area of focus in one of the following:

  • Reading Education
  • Gifted Education
  • English Language Learners
  • Instructional Technology


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Two recommendations
  • Goal statement
  • Transcripts
  • GRE scores, or choose one of the options below:
    • Submit evidence of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification
    • Take two of the degree's required courses as a non-degree student, passing both with a B+ or better, and submit a writing sample that will be scored via rubric for writing expectations
    • If a B+ or better is not achieved in one or both of the required classes, GRE scores need to be submitted
