Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality
The University of the Southwest offers a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Hospitality Management that is well suited for students who wish to enhance their knowledge in business fundamentals related to the hospitality management field. Graduates may find employment in hotels, tourism companies, convention hosting, food service, and other hospitality related organizations. The Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Hospitality Management program consists of 120 total credit hours that may be completed in four years. Students are required to complete general education courses, institutional coursework, major coursework, and hospitality management emphasis coursework. General education topics that students will cover include fine arts, humanities, social science, science labs, mathematics, computer applications, economics, composition, literature, and speech. Major level coursework students are required to complete include principles of accounting I & II, business law, principles of finance, principles of management, ethics, organizational behavior, creating a business plan, and principles of marketing. Lastly, students will complete hospitality management emphasis courses. These courses include human resources, management in the hospitality industry, management information systems, project management, service marketing, managing diversity, strategic planning, hospitality industry financial management, effective organizational teams, and food service management. These courses are designed to ensure students are well prepared to further their education and obtain employment in administrative positions within the hospitality management career field.
All courses for this program are available online. The online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll in this degree program. In order to graduate, students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale) in the hospitality management emphasis area and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
