Doctor of Philosophy in Nuclear Engineering
University of South Carolina-Columbia
Program Details
The online PhD in Nuclear Engineering program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for tasks such as:
- Describing, explaining, and computing the magnitude of radioactivity associated with nuclear reactions and reactor operation
- Calculating the critical size of a nuclear reactor based on the specification of materials present in the reactor
- Describing and computing reactivity effects of control materials, temperature changes, and fission product poisoning
- Evaluating fuel cycles in terms of processing, costs, and relative benefits
- Describing and computing neutron slowing down and thermalization processes for generating neutron cross data needed in modern reactor physics codes for designing and analyzing nuclear reactors
