Program Details

The online PhD in Nuclear Engineering program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for tasks such as:

  • Describing, explaining, and computing the magnitude of radioactivity associated with nuclear reactions and reactor operation
  • Calculating the critical size of a nuclear reactor based on the specification of materials present in the reactor
  • Describing and computing reactivity effects of control materials, temperature changes, and fission product poisoning
  • Evaluating fuel cycles in terms of processing, costs, and relative benefits
  • Describing and computing neutron slowing down and thermalization processes for generating neutron cross data needed in modern reactor physics codes for designing and analyzing nuclear reactors

Requirements

Students must travel to campus to present their dissertation.

  • A baccalaureate or master's degree (or the international equivalent) from an accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended for course credit
  • Two or more letters of recommendation
