Doctor of Nursing Practice / Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
University of South Alabama

Program Details

The Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner DNP is an online adult nurse practitioner program from the University of South Alabama.  This program allows nurses to advance in their careers while taking a more direct role in patient care.  While the structure of the role varies, depending on the collaborative agreement with physicians and other members of the healthcare team, you will have the training needed to legally diagnose and treat medical conditions.  You may provide direct patient management from admission to discharge while collaborating with others in healthcare or you may continue to follow the patient into the outpatient setting to ensure their needs are met.  Regardless of your role, all students will complete these courses:

  • Advanced Pathophysiology
  • Advanced Pharmacology
  • Advanced Physical Assessment Across the Life Span

Unlike many DNP programs, students are not required to complete a dissertation; instead, they complete an evidence-based scholarly project that will have a substantial effect on healthcare and patient outcomes.
