Master of Social Work / Advanced Standing
University of Nevada – Reno

Program Details

The University of Nevada – Reno offers an online social work degree, the Master of Social Work with an Advanced Standing option.  This program introduces students to the social work perspective.  Coursework prepares ethical, competent advanced generalist social work leaders who are prepared to practice reflectively and autonomously in complex environments across system levels with diverse client groups.  You will learn to use critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgements and to engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.  The curriculum provides a holistic, complex, and dynamic view of social work practice, preparing students to engage in research, apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, and respond to the contexts that shape their practices.  Graduates will also be prepared to advance human rights and social and economic justice while engaging in private practice to advance social and economic well-being and deliver effective social work services.

The online social work degree with the Advanced Standing option is available for students who meet the prerequisite requirements, including the completion of a baccalaureate program in social work.  This option allows students to complete the program faster since they only need to complete the 700-level courses and 32 credits rather than the regular 62 credit program.
