Master of Social Work / Advanced Standing
University of Memphis

Program Details

The online MSW (Master of Social Work) from the University of Memphis is available as an Advanced Standing Program.  This allows outstanding graduates of undergraduate social work programs who meet the requirements to complete the MSW with fewer required credit hours, making the program completion faster and more affordable.  The online MSW is designed to prepare students to enhance human well-being and to help meet their basic needs while focusing on those who are vulnerable, oppressed, or living in poverty.  The curriculum consists of generalist practice introducing students to social work followed by a concentration in either Advanced Practice with Children, Youth, & Families or Advanced Practice with Adults & Families.  The Advanced Practice with Children, Youth, & Families concentration focuses on providing behavioral interventions for children with special needs, child welfare, childhood trauma, abuse and neglect, foster care and adoptions, community programs for children, and advocacy for children and their families.  The Advanced Practice with Adults & Families prepares students to work on a variety of social issues across a wide range of populations, including military families, community violence, corrections, homelessness, poverty, geriatrics, disability, mental health and substance abuse, and neighborhood development.

The Advanced Standing option consists of all of the concentration content in the concentration the student chooses and the following foundation courses:

  • Assessment, Diagnosis, Psychopath
  • Social Welfare Policy
  • Advanced Standing Field
