Program Overview

University of Maryland at University College offers a Master of Science degree in Management with a specialization in Intelligence Management for professionals interested in the field of intelligence gathering for national and organizational efforts to collect, manage, and control intelligence and prevent unauthorized access to critical data. Students will learn to apply management theories and learn to engage in intelligence-related research and interpret intelligence-related data and literature in order to prepare for early and mid-level career intelligence services.  

Students in the program will learn about the collection of intelligence and its utilization to allow for management and enforcement. Those classes include organizational theory, intercultural communication and leadership, financial decision making for managers, statistics for managerial decision making, strategic management, managing intelligence activities, sources and challenges of intelligence collection, consumers, uses, and issues of intelligence analysis, espionage and counter intelligence, intelligence led enforcement, and intelligence management and oversight.  

Upon graduation from the program, students will have demonstrated the capability and knowledge inherent with intelligence work and the qualifications necessary for professional employment in intelligence fields.  These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to manage intelligence processes through analysis, design, and optimization in response to organizational needs, to use sound evaluation practices to select appropriately among competing technologies and technical approaches for the purposes of collecting and managing intelligence, to analyze social, legal, ethical, and professional issues in intelligence collection and technical decision making, to make appropriate intelligence decisions based on analysis, enforcement, and counterintelligence, to understand the challenges and issues related to the collection of intelligence, and to demonstrate the ability to lead intelligence led law enforcement and operational enforcement.

    School Overview

    The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.

    The UMUC offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in professional subjects, all of which can be earned online or in hybrid formats.
