Program Details

The University of Maryland-Baltimore County offers an online Master’s in Instructional Systems Development (ISD) with an emphasis in Training Systems designed for those who create, deliver, support and measure training, learning and performance within organizations.  Graduates are prepared to work in a variety of positions, such as trainers, instructional designers, instructional technology specialists, eLearning developers, or training managers.  The program combines research and practical design experience as well as emphasizing implementation of technology with instruction.  Ultimately, the ISD degree provides a strong foundation in adult learning, instructional systems development and training principles.

The Master’s in ISD- Training Systems is a 36 credit hour program.  There are seven core courses, five elective courses, and a final comprehensive examination.  Core courses include: Instructional Systems Development I and II, Adult Learner, Principles of Training and Development, Research Design in Education, ISD Internship, and ISD Project Seminar.  The student also chooses five classes from among the following: Learning Communications, The Online Classroom, Principles of Distance Education, Corporate Distance Training, Consulting for Training and Performance, Best Practices in Training and Performance, Survey of Instructional Technology Applications, Instructional Technology Design and Development, Multi-media Project Management, Project Management, Current Issues and Trends in Instructional Technology, Managing and Training Performance, Portfolio Development and Talent Management, Individual Projects, and Human Performance Technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree earned from a regionally accredited college or university or an equivalent degree from a comparative foreign institution
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • 3 letters of recommendation
