Machias, ME

School Details

In January 1909, citizens of Machias began an aggressive campaign to locate a normal school in Washington County. The Washington State Normal School operated as such for 42 years. WSNS officially became the Washington State Teachers’ College in 1952, moving to full four years of education and adding degrees. In 1968, the college became part of the University of Maine System. The school’s name officially became UMaine Machias in 1970. Today, UMM is an affordable liberal arts college and a community of individuals committed to the environment. It is located on the unspoiled Maine coast.

UMaine Machias offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees and certificates, several of which are available online through Distance Learning. UMaine Online offers degrees in psychology, education, business, geographic information systems, and more. Students enjoy world-class academics that can be accessed from anywhere. As UMaine Online says, “Be a Black Bear from anywhere!”
