Program Details

The online Graduate Certificate in Environmental Geology program is for those interested in a wide range of environmental issues and want the combination of physical and natural science with project management and communications training.  Students gain the skills to accurately collect and clearly communicate data and to be leaders as they learn to work in a variety of industries including engineering firms, environmental remediation firms, environmental consulting firms, oil and mining companies, and governmental entities.  You may have duties including: 

  • Studying geophysical events
  • Performing site analysis
  • Assessing potential geophysical impacts to the environment
  • Preparing and presenting reports on findings


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution as evidenced by an official undergraduate transcript
  • Must have an undergraduate major in geology or closely related field (natural, physical, or applied sciences, engineering), OR coursework of at least 20 credit hours in the natural and applied sciences (biology, chemistry, geology, physical geography, environmental sciences, or engineering)
  • A GPA of at least a B for all previous university work is required. Under extenuating circumstances, an average below 3.0 can be considered
  • Non-native English speakers must also meet the English proficiency requirement (i.e., TOEFL or IELTS test), visa/I20, and financial requirements
  • Statement of interest
  • Two letters of recommendation 

Three on-site, one-credit-hour, day or weekend workshops covering field and laboratory methods.
