Energy - Solar Energy Certificate
The University of Florida’s Graduate Certificate in Solar Energy is offered through an entirely online format. This program is administered through the College of Engineering, and under the university’s EDGE Department. The Solar Energy Certificate is designed to prepare engineers for careers related to solar technologies. This program’s distance learning delivery was designed with working students and engineering professionals in mind who wouldn’t normally have the freedom to pursue a traditional certificate on-campus due to family, location, or work commitments.
This program’s core curriculum consists of three courses, or nine credits. The coursework takes approximately one year to complete, and students can begin any semester they choose. There is only one required course, and students fulfill the other two course slots by choosing an elective from a list tailored to their personal interests and professional goals.
The required course spans the topic of Solar Energy Utilization, emphasizing the characteristics, availability, collection, storage, conversion, and refrigeration of solar energy. The elective courses cover a wide range of topics, including solar radiation heat transfer, advanced solar reactors, concentrated solar energy, and energy conversion. Upon successful completion of the thorough curriculum, students may be equipped with the solid skill set and knowledge base to succeed in this field.
