The University of Florida’s Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership is offered through the university’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and under the Department of Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. This certificate is designed to prepare participants for executive leadership positions in nonprofit organizations. This program’s distance learning delivery was implemented with working professionals in mind who wouldn’t normally have the freedom to pursue a traditional certificate program on-campus due to family, location, or work commitments. This program aims to find a balance between the maximum convenience and flexibility found in an online program, while maintaining the academic excellence of a certificate from an institution such as the University of Florida. Through this program, students may be able to further their education and enrich their careers without sacrificing their work and family life.
The core curriculum of this program consists of five courses, or 15 credits, and includes specialized training in governance and leadership of nonprofit organizations, fundraising and risk management, decision making and planning functions of local, state, and national nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits are an integral part of the economy, operating in various areas such as health care, education, social services, arts, recreation, professional associations, and religious organizations. With abundant employment opportunities in such diverse settings, this may be an ideal course of study to pursue.
