Tarleton State University offers an online Master of Arts (MA) degree in English ideal for either those who wish to pursue a PhD or inpiduals interested in continuing their teaching careers at the secondary level. The program is 36 hours with the choice between a thesis or non-thesis track.
The MA thesis track is designed for students whose goal is to obtain a PhD for the purpose of teaching at a collegiate level as well as conduct scholarship beyond the MA level.
The non-thesis track is for students planning on teaching at the secondary level. The Professional Educator English Program (PEEP) meets the needs of those interested in earning a degree through distance learning. This is especially helpful for Texas high school teachers who need qualification for dual credit English courses.
Both tracks require students to take the Methods of Research and Research Analysis course and a written comprehensive examination.
Admission requirements include the student possessing an undergraduate degree in English and a minimum of 14 undergraduate hours in one foreign language.
