BAT - Health Professions Technology

Program Details

Tarleton State University in conjunction with the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Fort Worth, Texas offers a Bachelor’s of Applied Technology (BAT) degree in Health Professions Technology ideal for certified or licensed health practitioners who already possess an Associate’s degree and wish to augment professional skills.  

To be admitted into this program students must have one of the following degrees plus a certification or license: AAS Medical Laboratory Technology, MLT (ASCP), AAS Histotechnology, HT (ASCP), AAS Dental Hygiene, Registered Dental Hygienist, AAS Emergency Medical Services, EMT Paramedic or equivalent, AAS Health Information Technology, Appropriate Certification, AAS Physical Therapy Assistant, Licensed PTA, AAS Radiologic Technology, Registered Radiology Technologist by American Registry of Radiology Technologists, AAS Respiratory Care, Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory Therapy and Texas Department of Health, AAS Surgical Technology, Certified Surgical Technologist by Association of Surgical Technologists, AAS Biotechnology (Eligible students may articulate from Temple College, Collin County College or by permission of Department Head).

Successful completion of the BAT degree in Health Professions Technology requires a total of 120 semester hours.  33 of these hours come from the student's previously completed AAS program as well as 42 hours of General Education, 24 hours of Major Field of Study and 21 hours of Electives.  General Education requirements include: English (9 hrs.), Communications (3 hrs.), Health (2 hrs.), History (6 hrs.), Political Science (6 hrs.), Visual and Performing Arts (3 hrs.), Mathematics (6 hrs.), Lab Science (7 hrs.), and an additional three hours in one of the following areas Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Architecture, Engineering, Geography, or History.  

The required Major’s courses are in Medical Laboratory Science (1 hr.), Health Professions Technology (17 hrs.), English (3hrs.) and Management (3 hrs.).  21 hours of Electives may be chosen from these areas (with the number of hours available from each discipline in parenthesis) Administration (6 hrs.), Computer Information Systems (9 hrs.), Communications (3 hrs.), English (9 hrs.), General Business (3 hrs.), History (3 hrs.), Mathematics (3 hrs.), Management (9 hrs.), Psychology (9 hrs.), and Sociology (3 hrs.).
