Program Details

The online Master of Music Education degree program from Southern Utah University is designed specifically for current school ensemble directors who wish to continue working while obtaining their degree. The curriculum focuses on increasing participants':

  • Ability to direct ensembles in secondary schools
  • Understanding of music through analysis and performance, including historical and societal implications
  • Classroom management skills as they relate to music

Requirements

Students meet for three-week on-campus sessions in June, then complete their coursework online throughout the school year.

  • Transcripts from each college or university attended
  • Resume with attached written statement of purpose (cover letter)
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (*One letter must come form an administrator that can confirm employment status)
  • Cumulative Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Bachelors Degree in Music w/ Teaching Certification (Transcripts to demonstrate)
  • Proof of Current Teaching Position (Three Letters of Recommendation; at least one from an Administrator who can confirm current and ongoing employment in a music ensemble classroom)
