Program Details

The online Master of Arts in Museum Studies is a history degree from Southern University at New Orleans that provides a rigorous study of Museology.  Museology is the study of the theories, procedures, and managerial concepts of museums, which are institutions for the acquisition, preservation, study, and exhibition of works of artistic, historical, or scientific value.  With this history degree that focuses on museums, students study how museums produce and interpret culture and the role museums play around the world.  Coursework develops skills used in the functioning and critical analyses of museums while also addressing topics across the interdisciplinary perimeters of museum studies.  Using a balanced approach between theory and practice, students in this history degree program learn to be professionals and leaders in the museum and art sectors who are able to develop more equitable, diverse, and inclusive cultural institutions.
