The Criminal Justice Technology Diploma program is a non-degree resulting one offered by Southeastern Technical College. This program is designed to prepare students for entry or advancement in criminal justice professions. This program aims to combine theory and practical application in order to provide students with a rounded and relevant instruction. The technology aspect of this program is intended to prepare students for working in a time with an increasing reliance on technology. Professionals are expected to be aware of current and emerging trends in all aspects of criminal justice technology.
It is the goal of this program to help students gain the skills and knowledge necessary for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Earning a Diploma can serve to benefit current practitioners in the field that already possess an Associate's or Bachelor's in Criminal Justice or Criminology. Pursuing this diploma program is appropriate for professionals seeking to enter into or already working in corrections, law enforcement, security, investigations, and the various levels of the judicial system.
Applicants should be aware that earning this diploma does in now way ensure certification of officer status in the state of Georgia. Candidates seeking such certification must do so through the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. Students should also be aware that being convicted of a felony or multiple misdemeanors can prevent employment in the criminal justice field.
Students must earn a minimum of 50 hours of credit, a total that typically can be completed in five semesters. Of the total, 11 hours come from general education classes while the remaining 39 are from work in the occupational core. At the end of the program, candidates are able to choose either a Criminal Justice Practicum, in which they complete a research project, or Externship, an experiential time that exposes them to related agencies in the criminal justice field.
