The Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia offers a Master of Arts in Photography. The curriculum is 45 credit hours completed through nine courses. These courses include: Contemporary Art, Digital Craft, Studio Craft, Photography MA Portfolio, Digital Printing Methodology, Photography MA Final Portfolio, two directed electives, and one 500- to 700-level elective.
One of the directed electives must be one of the following: Documentary Photography I, Commercial Photography I, and Web Design for Photography. However, Web Design for Photography is only offered online. The other directed elective must include one of the following: Photographic Arts II, Commercial Photography II, and Advanced Digital Craft. However, Advanced Digital Craft is only available online.
Intensive coursework may be assigned in addition to these courses, if necessary. These courses are: Survey of Photography, Photographic Technique and Signification, and Photography Portfolio Process.
The Photography program at SCAD emphasizes the importance of students to develop their own personal style by honing their acquired skills to help bring their ideas to life. The program also allows students to cater their course of study to their desired interests and professional goals. Students have the option to specialize in a variety of photography-related disciplines, including: art, commercial, photojournalism, documentary, and hybrid disciplines.
Photography students at SCAD use the current technology and software used in the industry. Students improve their degree of visual literacy and culminate skills using a variety of camera systems, digital workflow, color and black-and-white technique, and studio and location lighting.
The Photography MA Final Portfolio can be completed in either a digital or printed format. The portfolio must demonstrate the student’s mastery of visual literacy and their ability to show their personal style. Students must also demonstrate their proficiency to use the learned compositional elements and methodologies in this context. Students are also expected to design and develop professional business practices for their final portfolio.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or should anticipate completion of a bachelor's degree before enrollment in the graduate program. All applicants are evaluated individually according to previous educational experience and level of achievement.
