Program Details

Santa Clara University offers a Master of Theological Studies degree to the online student.  This program prepares students for more effective service in ministry, equipping individuals with the tools and skills to approach and confront pastoral and theological issues in diverse cultural contexts.    

Concentrations include but are not limited to:

  • Biblical studies
  • Christian spirituality
  • Cultural and historical studies of Catholicism
  • Ethics and social theory/Religion and society

Students will become theologically literate in the scriptures while developing a broad foundation in biblical knowledge and application.  Study liturgy, history, spirituality, ethics, interplay of faith and culture, and more.  Discover the interplay of faith and culture, and become a leader in spirituality and knowledge with Santa Clara University.


  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Background in theology coursework or equivalent
  • At least one year of active ministry or its equivalent
  • Official transcripts
  • Resume or CV
  • Statement of purpose
  • GRE test scores (waived for applicants with a master's degree or higher)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Proof of English language proficiency for international students
