Medical Transcription - Certificate
Rochester Community and Technical College offers an abbreviated Medical Transcription Certificate that provides basic skills in medical transcription. The program prepares students to handle patient reports and tests. Students enrolled in this program will be prepared to hold a transcriptionist or office support position in medical offices, clinics, hospitals, insurance companies and firms.
This online program consists of 21 credit hours that can be completed in more than one term but less than one year. Full and part-time schedules are available for courses and can be started any semester.
Students enrolled in the Medical Transcription Diploma program at Rochester Community and Technical College are required to complete one General Education course in order to enhance their career and personal development. Professionally-Related Business Requirements include subjects such medical terminology, medical transcription, computer technology, and pathophysiology & pharmacology. A computer or PowerPoint course is also required in order to complete the program.
Students who enter this program must be proficient in keyboarding by typing at least 45 words per minute. Enrolled students who do not meet this requirement are encouraged to enter a keyboarding course. Keyboarding course BTEC 1050 will not count towards credits required to complete the program.
