Administrative Assistant - Diploma
Rochester Community and Technical College offers an Administrative Assistant Diploma which is designed to prepare students to handle a wide variety of business related tasks. These tasks include records management, scheduling appointments or meetings, making travel arrangements, and telephone etiquette. This one year concentrated program opens students to a variety of different employment options. These options can range from business firms, government offices, and other companies who are in need of an administrative assistant. This online based program consists of 37 credit hours that can be completed in at least a year. Full and part-time schedules are available for courses and can be started any semester.
Students enrolled in the Administrative Assistant Diploma program at Rochester Community and Technical College are required to complete two general education classes. These courses include classes in Word Processing and Internet Applications. These courses are designed to enhance an individual’s computer and information literacy. English Grammar for Careers and Employment Strategies are both required courses for the program that further student’s career and personal development. The Professionally-Related Business courses required for this program vary between one, two, and three credit courses. The courses required in this program include Human Relations in Organizations, Machine Transcription, Quality Issues for Business Transcription, Information Resource Management, Business Communications, Office Procedures, Word Processing II, Customer Service Skills and Concepts, Internship, Microcomputer Business Applications, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook.
Students who enter this program must be proficient in keyboarding by typing at least 35 words per minute. Enrolled students who do not meet this requirement are encouraged to enter a keyboarding course. Keyboarding courses will not count towards credits required for the program.
