Program Overview

The Master of Science in Organizational Leadership degree program offered by Robert Morris University is a completely online degree that provides its graduates with a deeper understanding of how to effectively develop others and accomplish organizational goals. This interdisciplinary degree aims to teach students how leaders recognize opportunity, motivate individuals and groups, and why people choose leaders to follow.

Careers graduates with this degree may advance to include: assistant vice president of a bank, marketing and promotions manager, managing supervisor, preside of human resources, and customer service manager.

Courses that are required by this program include: History and Theory of Leadership, Leadership and Ethics, Leadership and Communication, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Knowledge Acquisition and Decision making, Conflict Resolution, and Organizational Leadership Capstone. The capstone project is a project that expresses the student’s acquired knowledge and skills.

Electives offered by this program include: Legal Issues for Leaders in Organizations, Leadership in Organizations, Leadership in Organizational Change, Group Dynamics and Interpersonal Relationships, and Cultural Dynamics and Leadership. Courses in Information Systems, Communications, and Computer Science are also encouraged to fulfill required open-electives.

These courses emphasize theories and strategies of leadership, conflict negotiation, critical thinking, ethics, and change, as well as how to manage information and technology, and analyze human behavior in cultural contexts.

This program builds on a student’s knowledge and experience as a member of society whom interacts with a wide variety of institutions. This knowledge and experience is then combined with theoretical knowledge and practical skills taught through the classes of this program. The end goal is a highly effective and qualified leader who is able to meet challenges, solve problems, think creatively and critically, and engage as well as develop others.

    School Overview

    Robert Morris University is a private, not-for-profit institution located in Moon Township, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school was founded in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy. In 1962, the school purchased 230 acres which is at its current location. A short time later, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania granted the school permission to award associates degrees, and the school became Robert Morris Junior College. Around 2002, the university changed to its present day name.

    RMU continues to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees through following 5 academic schools:
