Politicians may get the headlines, but the political communications experts are the ones who craft their strategic messages and who help speak for government agencies before the media. Regent's M.A. in Communication with a concentration in Political Communication equips students to produce effective and powerful communication within the political environment of the American government. Students are armed with knowledge of political theory, messaging skills, and an understanding of media influence in the public sphere.

Upon graduation, students are equipped to serve in such careers as: Government public relations/public affairs as media spokespeople, press secretaries at the city, state or federal level, spokespeople for political candidates or office holders, campaign press liaisons or for those wishing to work in public relations at NGOs and nonprofit organizations that operate in the policy sector.

Students will:

  • Apply tools to understand and analyze public opinion regarding political and social issues and media framing of these issues.
  • Describe the ways in which media influence can and should be carried out within a Christian worldview.
  • Format a strategy for influencing citizens including the use of conventional and social media.
  • Respond quickly and accurately in complex situations as a principled media representative or public information officer.
