The online BA in Substance Abuse Counseling degree program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to integrate Christian principles into counseling techniques with individuals, families, groups, and communities. Coursework covers topics in psychopharmacology, ethical and legal issues, theology, abnormal psychology, family dynamics, and more.
Students are eligible to apply to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals board for Certified Chemical Dependency Assistant status (CDCA) once they have completed 40 clock hours (not semester hours) of chemical dependency training in specific areas. Students who live outside of Ohio or plan to relocate to another state should contact the appropriate state licensure board to learn of requirements unique to that state.
This degree requires a minimum of 50 semester credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning prior to acceptance. For students who do not have the necessary transfer credits, they may be able to enroll in the online associate's degree first in order to complete their degree.
