Program Overview

Mid-America Christian University’s Master of Public Administration degree trains students to become leaders in government service and non-profit organizations. This degree is designed to give students new to public service the education and background needed to begin a career within the public sector. The program gives experienced professionals already working in government or non-profit environments the tools needed to rise to managerial and administrative positions. This degree will examine the political, legal, ethical and social context of public administration from a Christian perspective. The program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration.

Through this online program designed for working adults, individuals will complete a total of 34 credit hours in topics such as business, leadership, theology and the public sector. Classes are administered by experienced online instructors who will be able to offer guidance to students through the entire program. Graduates have the potential to be eligible for paid internship opportunities depending on performance and availability during the program. This degree program requires students to have previously completed a bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.

The MPA degree can be used for a variety of management positions. Students will be able to use their education to excel in administrative careers with federal agencies, county government, national legislature, politics, and even teaching at a college level. Because this degree comes with a unique Christian perspective, it is well suited for students who wish to work with Christian-based non-profits or organizations.

    School Overview

    The university first opened in 1953 as the South Texas Bible Institute in Houston, Texas. By 1955, the school offered a four-year degree and changed its name to the Gulf Coast Bible College. Today Mid-America Christian University is a four-year, private not-for-profit liberal arts institution. Associated with the Church of God, Mid-America Christian’s mission statement “prepares students through a Wesleyan perspective to create, collaborate, and innovate to solve local and global problems for the glory of God through Jesus Christ and the good of society.”

    MACU offers Bible-based liberal programs and ministry education, extending more than 25 fields of study for graduates and undergraduates. The school offers certificates, associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees. Students have the option to complete degrees delivered online, offered through once-weekly accelerated formats, or hybrid sessions. Online coursework is available for first-time students, returning students and graduate programs.
