Bachelor of Science in Management
Metropolitan State University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Management degree for students who are interested in a career involving the application of leadership to motivate and direct members of a business to achieve the goals of the business. These individuals are responsible for communicating the aims of the company and understanding how to direct employees to act and work to meet those goals. Managers have the responsibility for directing the employees to maximize their capability and inspire leadership in others to help increase the productivity and prosperity of the company.
The student will focus on a curriculum which involves developing their leadership potential as well as training in the management aspects of most businesses and organizations. Those classes include college algebra, statistics, financial accounting, macroeconomics, microeconomics, financial accounting, management principles and practices, organizational behavior, marketing principles, principles of management information systems, financial management, case studies in strategic management, human resources management, strategic frameworks, staffing organizations, employee development and training, compensation management, and employee benefits management.
Students will prepare in this program for entry-level and start-up level positions in management in business, nonprofit, and government organizations. Through completion of the program, they will have demonstrated the qualities necessary to act as managers in most fields. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate understanding of the functional areas of organizations and the responsibilities of managers who do their jobs effectively, to demonstrate an understanding of multiculturalism and diversity as a reflection of the impact of globalization in business, to demonstrate understanding of external influences that affect businesses, and to demonstrate the responsibility necessary for management decision making.
