The Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity at Mercy College is ideal for individuals wishing to enter into a career in information infrastructure assurance and security, network security administration, information security analysis, or information system security. The B.S in Cybersecurity adequately prepares students for occupations that require knowledge in new security software, protection and disaster recovery, and security policy.
The U.S. Department of Labor has stated that the need for Cybersecurity professionals will rise significantly between 2013-2018. The program at Mercy College strives to prepare all graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to pass the Security+ exam. Additionally, students will learn how to monitor use of firewalls, utilize intrusion detection systems, test and implement disaster recovery operation systems, as well as conduct compliance audits.
Students must complete 120 credit hours of coursework before obtaining their B.S in Cybersecurity. Of the 120 credit hours, 60 are general education courses, 48 are Cybersecurity major courses and 12 are open elective courses. Specific program courses offered include Linux Administration, Network Security, Computer Networks, Database Management Systems, Cryptography and Computer Security, System Security, Introduction to Computer Forensics, Introduction to Wireless Network Security, Objects, Structures, and Algorithms, and Website Administration Security.
All courses are offered online as well as at the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx Mercy College locations in New York. Mercy College also offers a M.S in Cybersecurity for those wishing to continue their education and professional development in the field of Cybersecurity.
