Program Details

The Mayville State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics that prepares students for a career in education, business, or industry. Other employment options for individuals completing this program include accountants, actuaries, bankers, college administrators, economists, tax managers, computer technicians, statisticians, demographers, and lawyers.

This program develops a student’s skills through problem based learning of math topics. Individuals who complete this program will be given knowledge and skills that can be used in teaching and non-teaching positions. Hands-on training, computer courses, and other methods are used in order assist a student’s ability to apply mathematical topics to the real world.

Mayville State University prides itself on being the right size for students to receive personal attention from professors and faculty. Small, personalized class settings and advanced technology provided by the college are variables related to success of students within the Math BS program. Students in this program are given opportunities to develop leadership skills, join sports teams, and participate in a variety of other activities and clubs.

In order to accommodate for different preferences of students, distance learning for this program is offered. This allows students to have a flexible experience while working towards their degree.

Students enrolled in the Math BS program are required to have general education courses completed, as well as core requirements. Core requirements include 33 credit hours on topics such as trigonometry, calculus, and probability & statistics, modern geometry, differential equations, history/philosophy of math, theory of numbers, algebraic structure, and comprehensive review/exam.

Students in the math program must be enrolled in a course in order to complete their final comprehensive examination. The BS degree in Math also requires students to complete a minor program that supports their BS in Math major.
