Louisiana Tech University offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management. This degree provides students with the skills and health-related information to be successful in their career field. Students will be prepared to collect, store, and retrieve information. These skills will be utilized by graduates who are employed in healthcare or related agencies. The Health Information Management B.S. program requires students to complete twelve-quarters of courses. In addition to these twelve-quarters, one-quarter of study will be completed at off-campus professional practice sites.
All classes are available online and can be taken part-time or full-time. This online learning environment allows students to have a flexible experience while maintaing their employment status and working towards a degree. Courses can be taken during the fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters each year. The forms of communication that may be used include online lectures, e-mail, electronic bulletin boards, digital drop box, and any other forms the professor finds fit. Students can expect to communicate with the professor and other students through these methods of communication. Graduates are eligible to take the examination of the American Health Information Management Association. Students who pass this exam are credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
This program prides itself on receiving the Louisiana State Board of Regents’ Commendation of Excellence. In addition to this prestigious award, the program is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
