This program may solidify an experienced law enforcement official’s training or give an interested student the academic and experience to enter the criminal justice field.
The Business Administration and Management specialization intends to prepare students for a career in the completive market of business and criminal justice by giving students the resources to gain foundational knowledge and skills regarding upholding the law, organizational administration, and financial workings within the criminal justice system. Courses aim to strengthen leadership and managerial skills, emphasizing the importance of applying ethics to practices and integrating faith with learning in a professional atmosphere.
Liberty University’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program aims to provide students the critical stepping stones in the justice field with a foundation of knowledge and skill to be well prepared for careers within related fields of service. The specialized justice curriculum teaches students to demonstrate and apply the Christian way of learning religious, economic and political liberties, while pursuing the academic background of the criminal justice system. The Helms School of Government currently offers ten residential degree programs, where students seeking other concentrations can pursue minors in Government, Criminal Justice, International Relations, Politics and Policy, Western Legal Traditions and Strategic Intelligence Studies. Online students should be advised that not all of the Government School programs may be offered as an online program.
Graduates of the degree program should develop the oral and written communication skills necessary to advance in professional organizations. The learned coursework builds on the student’s previous degrees, leadership, and managerial assets to confidently pursue future career opportunities and certifications. Earning the bachelor’s degree may give students the vital resources to understand the internal workings of the criminal justice system and proper evaluation of individual types of crime using the constitutional, procedural, and organizational methods of the federal criminal justice system. A Criminal Justice degree may equip graduates to effectively discern the behavioral characteristics that exemplify substantive and procedural criminal law, as well as the relevance between the laws. Graduates should demonstrate the learned methods of identifying the constitutional, procedural, and organizational differences of the federal criminal justice and representative systems.
The 120-credit-hour degree program is comprised of 45 general education courses covering topics in sciences, math, English, humanities, communications and the arts. The core criminal justice curriculum is 45 credit hours and delves into administration, casework, corrections, counseling, juvenile justice, probation & parole, social services and victim advocacy. The core courses are augmented for the Business Administration and Management emphasis by replacing five courses with: Principles of Accounting, Business Law, Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management. The remaining 30 credit hours are reserved for a student’s interdisciplinary choice of electives from various other concentrations.
