Kent State University offers an online certificate program in the area of Autism study. The certificate is designed to give professionals, already holding a Bachelors level degree, the additional understanding of the needed skills when teaching and providing for inpiduals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The other disorders classified under ASD include Autism, Asperger syndrome, pervasive development disorder, child hood disintegrative disorder and Rett syndrome. The program will most benefit educators, special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, psychologists and human services inpiduals.

The core courses develop the student’s abilities to recognize, assess, implement programs, effectively serve and address the needs of families of those diagnosed with ASD. The goal of the program is to give students the opportunity and resources to make a significant contribution in inpiduals within social, community, school and professional settings. The impact ASD has on an inpidual’s social and learning capabilities is a vastly misunderstood area of study and requires a well-rounded academic foundation.
