Ivy Tech Community College offers an online Associate of Applied Science in Office Administration program. The degree prepares students for a career in a professional office environment. As business' increasingly rely on technology, well-trained, capable inpiduals are needed to ensure daily tasks are handled efficiently and effectively. In Ivy Tech's Office Administration program, students will learn technical skills in Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, and other communications technologies, allowing movement to the top of an organization's must-hire list. Students will also take the Microsoft certification exams in Word, Excel, and Access; as an option, students may also test in Outlook and PowerPoint. The Office Administration program has four focuses of study: Administrative, Legal, Medical and Software Applications.
Administrative assistants work in an automated office environment using current word processing skills and follow office procedures with managers and other staff members.
Legal office administrators coordinate a law office's administrative activities, and prepare information for interaction between staff and clients.
Medical office administrators are responsible for administrative and clerical duties necessary for a medical office to operate efficiently and effectively. Modern medical offices require administration staff to have interpersonal job skills as well; focusing on effective customer service to patients, insurance providers, and other physician practices.
Software Applications: Students studying software applications will develop competencies with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases that will equip them with skills appropriate for most offices.
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Office Administration gives students the knowledge for entry-level positions or advancement in a current job. The business electives in the A.A.S. program, give students the interdisciplinary emphasis on topics such as management, marketing, human resources management, entrepreneurship, logistics, and international business.
The Associate of Applied Science degree is a program to prepare students for entry-level careers, career changes and career advancement. The A.A.S. program also prepares students for further educational aspirations to four-year institutions. The program offers an education in technical areas with emphasis on analysis, synthesis and evaluation of topics related to the information security fields. The program content, provides depth in technical and professional skills in addition to the general education requirements that give students the problem solving, communications, scientific and mathematical skills to successfully compete in the job market.
Graduates will be well prepared for entry into business organizations with positions in: Administrative Assistant, First Line Manager, Legal Secretary, Software Application Specialist, Executive Assistant, Office Assistant or use the Associate degree as the foundation for future educational goals.
