Program Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Marketing program may be completed entirely online. The program is designed to strengthen the student's expertise and knowledge in various fields of marketing. Courses within the program are intended for both students and current working professionals interested in enhancing their education or looking to switch career paths. With the help of an academic advisor, students may also customize the program by choosing which classes they may like to take in order to pursue future goals. If, however, a student wants a to take traditional classes, the program also offers campus-based courses on the San Francisco campus.

The program requires students to complete six courses for a total of 18 units. Students will need to take Marketing Management and five other MKT courses. Some MKT courses students may take are Integrated Marketing Communications, Integrated Marketing Communications Strategy & Implementation, Business-to-Business Marketing, Sales Management, and Services Marketing. Some of the courses may have prerequisites that need to be completed before enrollment. The prerequisites can be completed through approved transfer credit or course completion at Golden Gate University.

Within the certificate program's courses, students will learn a variety of marketing concepts, theories, and applications. Specifically, the curriculum will cover topics such as product positioning, pricing, external communications, customer behavior, demand determination, and research within the marketing industry. Students will also gain experience working in different businesses such as nonprofit, internet and other international organizations.

    With just four students, Golden Gate University began evening classes in 1901 in San Francisco. This private nonprofit university targets undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in “law, taxation, business and related professions.” Today, the university hosts thousands of online students across the globe in forty plus countries. Limited class sizes provide a “seminar-style” atmosphere with asynchronous discussions. Golden Gate offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a myriad of disciplines. These degrees also are available for online students with the exception of Psychology, Law, and cohort programs.
