Personal Computer Support - Associate in Applied Sciences Degree
Eastfield College offers an online Associate in Applied Sciences degree in Personal Computer Support designed to train students to troubleshoot software and hardware problems so that corrections may be implemented when possible. The program also teaches how to evaluate and install new software and hardware as well as assist in presenting training courses to new users. Ideally, the graduate will be qualified to provide support for personal computer users in a corporate environment.
Students must meet required Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards as well as earn 25 percent of the college credits through the college awarding the degree. If the student plans to transfer to a four-year institution they should consult an advisor to discover the requirements for transferability of the courses offered through Eastfield.
The AAS in Personal Computer Assistantship is a 61- to 68-credit-hour program taught over four semesters. First semester courses are taught in: Introduction to Computers or Business Computer Applications or Introduction to Computing, Fundamentals of Networking Technologies, Introduction to Word Processing or Integrated Software II or Advanced Word Processing, and Composition I.
The second semester classes are: Programming Logic and Design or Project Management Software, Introduction to PC Operating Systems and Personal Computer Hardware or IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software or IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software, Introduction to Spreadsheets or Advanced Spreadsheets, and Introductory Statistics or College Algebra.
Third semester course include: Introduction to Database or Advanced Database, Web Design I, Introduction to Speech Communication or Fundamentals of Public Speaking, a Social/Behavioral Science elective, and a Computer Science elective.
The final semester classes are: Introduction to Presentation Graphics Software or Integrated Software Applications I, Personal Computer Help Desk Support, Cooperative Education or any Computer Science elective, and a Humanities/Fine Arts elective.
