MS in Criminal Justice

Program Details

Law Enforcement agencies and other criminal justice systems actively encourage officers and staff to pursue higher education degrees and certifications and actively seek to hire new associates who have graduate degrees. Members with graduate education have expertise in criminal justice, advanced training, and positions of importance in their field. Law enforcement agencies seek officers, special agents, and other members of local and state law enforcement with these degrees to perform the administrative and expert tasks that educated inpiduals can perform. In addition, federal organizations like the FBI seek inpiduals with a strong educational and experience background almost exclusively, especially as demands for homeland security continue to grow.

East Carolina University offers the Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree for those seeking growth and career opportunities as professionals in law and law enforcement. The program will prepare students to become highly skilled and competent professionals who are prepared for their responsibilities in criminal justice or a related field. The program is available in the classroom on or entirely online, providing an opportunity for students who would be able to benefit by not sacrificing their personal or professional schedules with a classroom. By taking classes out of the home or other location, instead of a traditional classroom environment, students can choose their own schedules for completing classes, allowing students to have versatility in completing their learning.

The curriculum involved in this course is for students who are now experienced professionals, seeking advanced education in crime and criminology theory, critical analysis, juvenile justice administration and delinquency, research methodology for criminal justice administration, training and development in criminal justice, constitutional law, criminal courts and ethics, and public budgeting among other courses necessary for a well-rounded and comprehensive education in criminal justice.
