Davidson County Community College (DCCC) is a public, two-year higher-education institution that first opened in Davidson County in North Carolina in 1958. Originally chartered as an Industrial Education Center (IEC) the mission of the school was to help adults transition from a life in agriculture to a career in manufacturing. The first student body enrolled in 1963, with 51 attending adult education and service programs and 125 students enrolled in vocational and technical courses; thus making 2013 the 50th anniversary for DCCC. At the time, the school offered an Associate in Applied Science degree. Two years later, the IEC made the official name change to the Davidson County Community College, adding Associate degree programs in both arts and science. Today, the school offers these certificates, diplomas and Associate degrees in more than 50 programs. Just a year later, college transfer and vocational courses were added into the mix.
