Program Overview

Bossier Parish Community College offers an Associate of Science degree in Health Care Management for students who are interested in management, service, and leadership positions in health care services, medicine or operations of hospitals or other medical centers. Students will develop an understanding of the different areas of expertise in health services and will learn about the function of health organization and health and medical practices as for-profit and not-for-profit businesses.  Students will prepare for roles within managerial positions by studying the necessary technical and managerial information necessary for roles in health care.

Students will have the opportunity to utilize this program which emphasizes general education and studies of business specializing in health care management and administration. Classes include composition and rhetoric, college algebra, introduction to health care management, computer concepts, introductory chemistry, medical terminology, speech communication, software applications, healthcare informatics, risk and insurance, introduction to psychology, small business management, introduction to visual arts, human resource management, supervision, healthcare law, major American writers, basic statistics, and an internship within health care management.

Students completing the program will have demonstrated the necessary educational and professional qualifications for future studies and for entry-level roles in medical institutions.  These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to apply of management theory to real world and hypothetical healthcare situations, the ability to identify and utilize innovative processes and trends to acquire, develop, and retain competent employees, the utilization of innovative technologies in the management of healthcare information, the ability to investigate, critically analyze, and solve issues using basic healthcare legal and ethical principles, the successful interpretation and conveyance of technical information using both written and oral forms of communication, and the application of mathematical operations in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data.

    School Overview

    BPCC is a public, two-year institution of higher education, located in Bossier City, Louisiana. The mission of BPCC is: “to promote attainment of educational goals within the community and strengthen the regional economy.” The college first opened in 1967, and today, is a member of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. Bossier Parish Community College is approved to award associate’s degrees, occupational certificates, and supports specialized career training programs. BPCC also offers training through technical programs, workforce development, community education, and non-credit courses; and the High School Early Start program allows current high school students opportunities to earn college credits prior to high school graduation. 

    Bossier Parish Community College offers associate's degrees and technical certificates that can be completed through one hundred percent Internet instruction, along with hybrid online programs that provide at least fifty percent of distance education coursework. The typical virtual classroom environment includes work often found in the traditional on-campus setting, in which students watch PowerPoint presentations and video lessons, engage in web-hosted learning activities, and interact with other students through discussion forums.
