    School Overview

Lyman Stewart, co-founder and president of Union Oil Company, partnered with T.C. Horton to open the Bible Institute in 1908 in Los Angeles. Initially, the institution focused on studies in theology and Christian studies. As the school progressed forward, the renamed Biola College acquired programs in medicine, business, and continuing studies, in addition to gaining accreditation. By the 1980s, Biola changed its status to university. Although Biola has continued to grow, the University retains its founding Christian principles. Today, the four-year, private, not-for-profit Biola University awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees on its Southern California campus.
