Associate of Science Degree
Barton County Community College offers an Associate of Science degree for students who are interested in STEM fields who want to develop the foundations of education required for advanced learning in fields requiring math and science. The benefit of an Associate in Science degree is that they are generally accepted as the basis for future bachelor education in a variety of subjects in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. The Associate of Science program diverges through the course, where students will be required to pick a focus in business, accounting, marketing, management, dietary management, pre dietetics, early childhood education, economics, finance, health information management, liberal studies, political science, and psychology.
The program consists of classroom courses which emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education which will be applicable on the job. Those classes include college chemistry, organic chemistry, principles of biology, principles of botany, anatomy and physiology, environment science, physical science, introduction to geology, physics, engineering physics, business statistics, technical math, business math, intermediate algebra, college algebra, elements of statistics, trigonometry, business calculus, analytic geometry, English composition, world religions, and introduction to philosophy.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate acquired skills and knowledge in general education in order to produce well-rounded professionals and individuals, to prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math fields, and to prepare students for further undergraduate and graduate education programs by providing the foundation of those programs.
