    School Overview

In 1880, missionary teacher Professor Almon Bacone founded the Cherokee Baptist Mission in Oklahoma, based on Christian principles with the support of the American Baptist Home Mission Society. The first years were so successful that the Creek Tribal Council designated 160 acres for the school to be relocated to Muskogee. In 1910, the name of the school was ultimately changed to Bacone College in honor of its founder.

Though the private, not-for-profit Bacone College retains its Christian heritage, the demographics have expanded to include both American Indian and non-Indian students. The division of Adult Education offers additional degree opportunities to accommodate the needs of working adults and non-traditional learners. Students can enroll in eight-week accelerated classes, offered on-campus, online, and at off-campus site locations.
