Program Overview

Atlanta Metropolitan State College is currently offering an online Associates Degree in General Studies program. This is a transfer-oriented program intended to provide students a beginning step in their higher education. Students interested in pursuing a four-year degree baccalaureate degree at a future date will be able to use this program to complete the general education requirements for most 4-year universities and colleges. This program is not only useful for individuals wishing to go on to advanced study, but will also be fruitful for those who desire to use education to enhance their lives and grow as individuals.

This two year program is composed of a combination of Composition, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Social Science and Technology classes.  This program will not only satisfy most college’s general education standards, but give students a well-rounded foundation of education on which to succeed in future school and career opportunities. The curriculum is composed of 66 credit hours which are divided by 4 semesters. Students will have the opportunity to select from several electives from each area of study, thus allowing them to customize their degree to the focus that they desire.  Once students have completed all required courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.00, they will be awarded the Associates in General Studies

Atlanta Metropolitan State College uses the Desire2Learn online learning system to administer its online courses. This system gives students the freedom to decide when they complete coursework and study. The course syllabus, assignments, grades and projects are made readily available at all times to allow students to set their own schedule with ease. Online students will be able to interact with their professor or other students at any time using email, live chat rooms and message boards.

    Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMC) is a four-year, public school with a focus on associate’s degrees, located in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. The college is a unit of the University System of Georgia, which includes more than 30 higher educational institutions across the state of Georgia. AMC was first established in 1974, as Atlanta Junior College after the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia decided to authorize a junior college to serve the west metropolitan area of Atlanta.  AMC states a mission that:

Virtual classes are taught by the same instructors who teach traditional on-campus courses, and students enrolled in distance education courses will communicate with teachers via email, live chat rooms, and discussion forums. Typical virtual classroom environments include a course syllabus, multi-media, assignments, quizzes and exams, just like that of on-campus counterparts.
