Master of Divinity
Ashland University offers a Master of Divinity Degree that is well suited for students who wish to become Christian leaders in their community. Students who are enrolled in this degree program will gain knowledge on the Bible, theology, history, and much more. Graduates who receive this degree may have the opportunity to find employment in a rewarding career as church pastors, chaplains, teachers, missionaries, spiritual directors, campus ministers, church planters, and non-profit or para-church leaders.
The Master of Divinity Degree Program consists of 144 quarter hours. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in order to successfully complete the program. Course topics students will explore include major themes of Scripture, Christian doctrine, Church history, theological reflection, cultural contexts, social justice, leadership, worship, counseling, education, and many more. These topics are designed to prepare students to further their education and acquire a deeper understanding of ministry. The courses are expertly crafted to ensure graduates will be successful in this career path.
All courses are available online. The online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management, a reliable internet connection, and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll in this degree program.

Ashland University, affiliated with the Brethren Church, is a private not-for-profit, four-year institution of higher education, located in the city of Ashland Ohio. Ashland College was founded in 1878 by the German Baptist Brethren Church. In 1989, the college transitioned to Ashland University after the college expanded its academic offerings, including the addition of graduate programs. The mission of the university states “Ashland University educates and challenges students to develop intellectually and ethically, to seek wisdom and justice and to prepare for the rigors of living and working as citizens engaged in their local, national and global responsibilities."
