Angelo State University offers a Master of Education degree in Student Development and Leadership in higher education for students and professionals interested in developing advanced understanding of the role of administration and faculty in developing institutions of higher education. Students will learn about the role of non-academic members of higher education institutions and their responsibilities in college environments in providing career services, enrollment management, residential programs, and student development programs.
As part of the program, students will develop their understanding of leadership of higher education institutions in addition to developing understanding of developing college-level learners. Those classes include curriculum development, social and cultural influences, tests and measurements, life span development, applied research, legal and ethical principles, American higher education, college student development, leadership, and student affairs and administrative services.
Upon completion of the program, students will have demonstrated necessary educational and professional qualifications for roles within higher education institutions as administrators and leaders. These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to treat students equitably, recognizing the individual differences that distinguish one student from another, to create multiple paths to the subjects they teach, through their knowledge of how the subject is created, organized, linked to other disciplines, and applied to real-world settings, and to manage and monitor student learning to create, enrich, maintain, and alter instructional settings to capture and sustain the interest of their students and to make the most effective use of time.
