Program Details

The online Doctor of Education in Health Professions Education program prepares participants from culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse communities for teaching and leadership roles in the health sciences.  The program focuses on teaching that reflects societal needs for education in a variety of post-secondary educational settings and is dedicated to preparing individuals for the highest level of educational teaching and leadership.  The program emphasizes critical evaluation of the concepts and theories that underlie the nature and practice of teaching and the extension of the processes of inquiry developed at the master’s and baccalaureate levels.  The purpose of the learning in the program is to develop and test knowledge and to translate the evidence into teaching practice.


  • Requires one-day orientation residency and a four days of general residency
  • Master's or higher academic degree from a regionally-accredited post-secondary institution
  • Minimum graduate GPA of 3.25 (4.0 scale)
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience in health education or a related field
  • Completion of a course in statistics
  • Complete an admissions statement 
  • Interview may be required
