    School Overview

There were 175 students enrolled in Monroe Area Vocational-Technical School when it first opened in 1961. Then a second educational facility, the Albany Area Vocational-Technical School was also established, and by 1972 these two schools merged. Recognizing a further need for adult education programs in the state of Georgia, the Technical College System of Georgia incorporated the newly merged technical schools, along with adult education programs, to establish the Albany Technical Institute. More importantly, the technical school earned the right to award Associate’s degrees in 2000, thereby adopting a new name, Albany Technical College. Today, the college serves full-time and part-time students, equipping students with degrees and skills for the workplace, supporting basic education programs, and furthering knowledge through workforce trainings and continuing education.

Students can choose from associate's degree programs, diplomas and certificate programs. Additionally, Albany Technical College supports distance learning, offering online Associate’s degrees, and diploma and technical certificate programs. Albany Technical College also offers the flexibility of more than ten online technical certificate programs. All programs are delivered completely online, and technical certificates take the average student one to three semesters to complete.
