Program Details

The Master of Fine Arts in Sound Design is an online music degree focusing on advanced sound design training.  Available from the Academy of Art University, a top art school, this program focuses on the sound design for film, television, games, and other visual media.  Courses provide an overview of the audio postproduction process, recording and editing dialog, sound effects, and ambiences.  The goal is for students to be able to create sonic landscapes which support and inform the narrative, from initial recording to final mix.  You will also gain a working knowledge of professional workflows to prepare you for success in the soundtrack industry.

The Fine Arts degree emphasizes critical thinking and analyzation more than the Master of Arts degree and requires students to complete a thesis project that represents an advanced level of achievement in the sound design for visual media field.
