Program Details

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Costume Design is an online fashion degree that helps students realize their creative visions.  This program combines a rigorous sewing program with design courses that provide key technical skills, preparing students to work in numerous positions in theatre or film.  The courses offer opportunities to gain practical experience creating costumes that support the needs of a play while collaborating with the director, fellow designers, and the actors.  In addition to collaboration skills, you will learn to work effectively with industry software, communicate your design concepts through two dimensional visual presentations, conduct design research, produce creative and original designs that translate from 2D to 3D, and clearly express your ideas using fashion industry vocabulary.  Graduates will have advanced skills in alterations and the quick rigging of costume pieces for theatrical productions along with the ability to alter costumes to support evolving character needs while maintaining consistency in the costume looks and actors’ hair and makeup for the entire production.
