Program Details

Academy of Art University offers the Associate of Arts in Industrial Design, an online fashion degree.  Industrial Design is at the intersection of culture, technology, and business, transforming future visions into short-term tangibles.  This fashion degree develops an understanding of the fundamentals of physical design while focusing on trends and requirements in the industry.  Coursework covers the art, science, and business of the discipline along with research, ideation, problem-solving, and the evolution of function and aesthetics in everyday life.

Students can divide this degree into two main areas, fundamental skills and design skills.  Fundamental skills help students with their craftsmanship, including the use of traditional and digital tools, perspective accuracy, effective composition in visual communications, orthographic drawings and accuracy, well-crafted 3D models, and the use of appropriate materials and processes.  Design skills focus on collecting and using data for projects, identifying problems, setting design criteria that is relevant, applying design principles, demonstrating creativity and refinement in designs, and completing designs that meet all design criteria.
