School Details
Peninsula College was founded in 1961 due to the efforts of a group of local citizens who wanted to be able to continue their educations without having to travel great distances to college centers in Bremerton or across Puget Sound. Originally classes were small and held in a small building but enrollment at Peninsula College grew and in 1964 construction of the school’s current campus began. Today, the campus spans over 75 acres overlooking the city of Port Angeles, in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. Peninsula College operates with the mission “to provide educational opportunities in the areas of academic transfer, professional and technical, basic skills, and continuing education while it contributes to the cultural and economic enrichment of Clallam and Jefferson Counties.”
Peninsula College is classified as a public, four-year institution, but primarily awards associate’s degrees. Programs at Peninsula College are divided based on whether the student plans to earn a four-year degree through Peninsula College, transfer to another institution, or complete a continuing education certificate program. For those students who do not live close to campus or who are just too busy to attend traditional, on-campus programs, Peninsula College offers online programs. Complete one of a wide variety of online programs or earn an Associate of Arts degree and transfer to a four-year university while receiving the same quality instruction as those attending in-person classes.
