About Miami University

Miami University was founded by an ordinance of President George Washington, chartered in 1809. The first students enrolled in 1824. The progression of Miami University encompasses “five distinct historical eras,” ranging from the beginning marked growth of the institution, to developing professionalism, expansion, identifying an image, and most recently, the transition into a corporate university. Today, Miami University is a public, four-year not-for-profit institution with a main campus in Oxford, Ohio. In addition, the campus maintains campus locations in Middletown, Ohio; Hamilton, Ohio; Westchester, Ohio; and abroad in Luxembourg.

Students can pursue a wide array of academic opportunities at Miami University. Students can enroll in bachelor’s degree programs and master’s programs, doctorate degrees, and even associate’s degree programs at the regional campuses.
